De(mo)caffeinated
De(mo)caffeinated came about when Our Twilight Pastime played its first show, meaning my first show performing under this moniker. While I’d been on stage before in Adam’s Apples, and in Let’s Go Exploring, the first time it was just me and an acoustic guitar I was a bit nervous. But, I was also excited; so, I grabbed 8 songs I had recorded for my future full-length release (which would eventually become Terra Firma), and I burned approximately 20 copies, photocopied a cover/insert, and brought them with me to give out for free. Most of these songs (some as re-recorded versions, some with just minor changes in mixing) would find their way onto Terra Firma. Senescence sat around from late-2004, when I wrote it, to late-2005, when it made it onto this demo, and then again until 2007, when I re-recorded it for Drunken Sailors. However, Second Chance, the song I decided to open with at my first show as Our Twilight Pastime, never made it onto another CD, nor did As the Rain.
The overall response was favorable, and that made me smile. I recently found out that my dad still has a copy of this in his car. Seems like he’s a pretty hardcore OTP fan.
Oh, and the title relates to the fact that my first show was at a coffee shop. I’m a witty one, I know.
