- Over the years, I've always gone back and forth about exactly what Our Twilight Pastime's albums should sound like. Should they be more simplistic guitar-and vocals-only tracks? Or should they have a full, lush studio sound that I wouldn't be able to recreate live?
On Directions, I decided to go for the latter. I built upon a basic acoustic guitar skeleton I had, invited Chris over to play some trumpet, mixed it up, and got this as a result. Old-school OTP fans will know that this whole solo project started as very layered compositions as opposed to singer/songwriter stuff. Don't believe me? Check out Selcouth/Sysiphian .
- lyrics
- There's construction up ahead
that's stopping us
from going any further with this.
We're repaving our lives,
we're fixing what potholes we see
that we've gotten over time.
We're both taking a detour
and getting the hell out of here.
But as I'm sitting in this traffic
of these past few months,
you probably don't know
i've been thinking about this--
about you;
about placing my hands, like directions, into yours,
and asking "where should we go?"
